In this first episode of Islam & Earth in Ramadan 1444, grateful to have an in-depth conversation with the Executive Director of Green Muslims, Sr. Sevim Kalyoncu, who grew up in the deep south and shares about how her own most direct connection with Allah(swt) has been through nature. 
Sr. Sevim shares how Green Muslims was started in 2007 in Washington DC, in fact in the month of Ramadan and provides some practical tips on how families, communities, and institutions can think about green initiatives through Ramadan & beyond.

Sevim Kalyoncu is an environmental educator who serves as the executive director of Green Muslims, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization working to help connect the American Muslim community with nature and climate action. She speaks at local mosques, leads educational nature hikes, and puts together Meaningful Watershed Education Experiences (MWEEs) through Green Muslims’ Our Deen (Faith) is Green! youth education program. Through this work, she strives to encourage a spiritual connection with nature as well as environmental and climate awareness that is rooted in an Islamic understanding of environmental stewardship.
